Overview of the American Job Center Services
This site is a powerful online job seeker/workforce services system, accessed as a website on the Internet or an Intranet at an American Job Center. It was specifically designed for job seekers, students, case managers, employers, training providers, workforce professionals, and others seeking benefits and services. The system provides fast access to a complete set of employment tools in one website. Surveys have proven that users find it convenient and very useful. Use your mouse to point and click your way through the online services. This system is designed to be comfortable for everyone, even the person who has little computer experience. Features to help job seekers and students within the system include:
- Use a professional format to create and send résumés and cover letters to employers
- Assess your job skills, set goals, and research training providers
- Review available jobs and apply online
- Set up a Virtual Recruiter search agent to automatically review job postings and notify you of jobs that match your skills
- Track your job search efforts and résumés sent in a personal profile folder online
- Learn about services and benefits for which you may be eligible
- Determine a budget and plan for training
- Research regional labor market information, such as salaries Use the email/message center to contact employers and your case manager

The Workforce Services Division is responsible for policy development and workforce activities related to administering services and programs funded by the Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act (WIOA), signed into law July 22, 2014. We are the link between job seekers looking to begin or change careers, and businesses looking for skilled workers to maintain competitiveness in a changing labor market.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor is the principal Federal agency responsible for measuring labor market activity, working conditions, and price changes in the economy. Its mission is to collect, analyze, and disseminate essential economic information to support public and private decision-making. As an independent statistical agency, BLS serves its diverse user communities by providing products and services that are objective, timely, accurate, and relevant. The Bureau of Labor Statistics will meet the information needs of a rapidly changing U.S. and global economy by continuously improving its products and services, investing in its work force, and modernizing its business processes. The Occupational Employment Statistics (OES) program produces employment and wage estimates for over 800 occupations. These are estimates of the number of people employed in certain occupations, and estimates of the wages paid to them. Self-employed persons are not included in the estimates. These estimates are available for the nation as a whole, for individual States, and for metropolitan and non-metropolitan areas; national occupational estimates for specific industries are also available.
The Vocational Information Center website is an education directory that provides links to online resources for career exploration, technical education, workforce development, technical schools and related vocational learning resources.

The Small Business Initiative (SBI) was created by the Prince George’s County Economic Development Corporation to provide direct assistance to the rapid-growth potential small and minority-owned businesses located in Prince George’s County. Additionally, the SBI provides access to: capital, contract awards, and a comprehensive one-stop shop delivery of entrepreneurial training, management consulting and technical assistance.

Maryland Relay is for anyone who wants to communicate with someone who is deaf, hard-of-hearing, late-deafened, or speech disabled, and who uses a TTY (Text Telephone). The spoken words are relayed by an Operator (OPR) who types them, word for word, to the person on the other end of the line. Then the OPR speaks to the hearing person everything that the TTY user types back.
